Motivations
Nowadays, the role of human-machine interaction is becoming central in many applications, ranging from healthcare to novel biometric systems that are tailored on highly reliable biological signatures. In this new scenario, two are the main factors that contribute to the growth of the field: the first one is the availability of smart sensors that allows the recording of large amounts of data while the second one is the growing amount of AI tools for data processing and information retrieval.
AI impacts on the design and control of modern medical devices, that can be implanted on the human body. The aforementioned methodologies can be applied together with the IoT technologies to provide plug and play architectures, providing prosthetics and exoskeletons control, for clinical and industrial purposes. Further, AI can also have a major role in predicting the outcomes of rehabilitative treatments just with little data acquired in the initial stage of the process.
On the other hand, these new tools can be employed to realize models that mimic the behavior of complex biological systems by approaching the modeling through data-driven approaches. This represents the basis for the development of digital twin methodologies in healthcare, but it also permits the modeling of physiological systems for obtaining models of the complex relations governing the bio and pharmacokinetic processes, which still represent an important aspect for advancing medical research.
Hence, this special track would collect papers on the aforementioned topics, together with the fascinating field of modern biometrics signatures for digitalized system authentication, which will play an important role in future information encryption and communication.
